Sharoma Red Alert Maps

Maps

This page is simple in just offering the punters the chance to download some custom maps made for Red Alert by League members. As you are no doubt aware, Red Alert is packaged with a reasonable, but in ways very limited, map editor. The way the flag starting point system doesn't actually work properly is an annoyance, but there is lots of potential for interesting and diverse maps, as demonstrated below.

As you know, the map editor doesn't officially allow you to create mega maps, but you can download the blank mega map below, extract it to your Red Alert directory, and you can use it as the base for your custom mega maps. Thanks to the Red Alert Archive for the file.

To add the extra overlays to your maps (such as wooden fencing, chain link fencing and crates) download the following file and load like any other map. Open it in the Editor, and just copy your desired feature, then paste it into the map you want.

Belgium, 1939

Belgium, 1939 Name: Belgium, 1939
Author: Robin Sharrock
Size: 126x64
Players: 4-6
Terrain: Temperate

One of the first maps I made, and ultimately quite a simple affair. It is supposed to represent Belgium in the first year of the second world war, before any fighting actually took place, but is not based on any geographical data. The woods to the north offer a nice chance of an outflanking manoeuvre, and some close combat heavy fighting always proves interesting. The long land crossings are also an ideal opportunity for sweeping frontal attacks.

Crossing

Crossing Name: Crossing
Author: Simon Challands
Size: 96x96
Players: 6-8
Terrain: Temperate

Simon's first map and an excellent effort. Crossing originally had just one land crossing (the small one in the north) as well as the bridge. This was modified however, since the player that started near the crossing had an unfair advantage in controlling the only permanent pass from the offset.

Archipelago

Archipelago Name: Archipelago
Author: Simon Challands
Size: 126x64
Players: 4-6
Terrain: Temperate

Archipelago is another excellent map, and is a complex island network that makes for an interesting battle, whether co-opping, playing versus or just playing a skirmish against the AI. There are lots of outflanking opportunities with the numerous passes and bridges.

Volga

Volga Name: Volga
Author: Robin Sharrock
Size: 126x64
Players: 4-6
Terrain: Temperate

Like Belgium, 1939, this is based non-geographically on the River Volga region, upon which stood the sprawling industrial city of Stalingrad. Volga is a more advanced version of the Belgium, 1939 map and offers a better game.

Winter Volga

Winter Volga Name: Winter Volga
Author: Robin Sharrock
Size: 126x64
Players: 4-6
Terrain: Snow

Winter Volga is exactly the same as Volga, except Winter has set in, and the attacking forces better to equip themselves for the fierce Russian winter, or be prepared to be pushed back to their own soil!

Isolation

Isolation Name: Isolation
Author: Robin Sharrock
Size: 96x96
Players: 6-8
Terrain: Temperate

A map that evolved from an idea to have a central un-connected island to allow for the possibility of a large scale D-Day style landing against many computer AI players (see the section on the Pics page). It turned into what is actually an excellent playable map for 2 to 8 players. Each of the eight starting points has adequate resources and cover, and games are always exciting. The lucky soul on the middle island may or may not be a computer player, but either way prepare yourself for siege warfare and fiery sea crossings!

Remagen, 1945

Remagen, 1945 Name: Remagen, 1945
Author: Robin Sharrock
Size: 126x126 (mega map)
Players: 8
Terrain: Temperate

Remagen, 1945 is a mega map based on the events of March 7th, 1945 on the River Rhine in Germany. As the Allies closed in on Germany proper, German forces were busy blowing up bridges up and down the river as their comrades retreated back. But one bridge, the Ludendorff Bridge, remained intact due to faulty demolition wiring, and Allied forces flooded into Germany. Can you similarly prevent the destruction of these vital bridges or act as Germany and make sure they are blown up before the Allies cross? And once that's done, you still face the Russians from the East...
